- Police are investigating a cable fire near a train.
The police are treating the cable fire at Deutsche Bahn in Berlin as a potential political attack. Current information suggests a political motive, as stated by a police spokesperson. The state's criminal investigation department is continuing to investigate the case. The fire is causing ongoing disruptions to long-distance, regional, and S-Bahn services in the capital.
An alleged manifesto uploaded to a left-wing internet platform is also being considered in the investigation. The Berlin investigators believe it comes from the left-wing scene. However, the police do not consider it an "authentic confession" as known from other cases. Nevertheless, it is being further examined as it might provide clues about the perpetrators.
Exchange with LKA in Hamburg and Bremen
The Berlin State Criminal Police Office (LKA) is in close contact with the police authorities in Hamburg and Bremen during the investigation. There was a suspected arson incident on the railway line between Bremen and Hamburg last week, which was also mentioned in the published manifesto.
According to an RBB report, the Bremen police stated on Monday that a "conclusive and clear assessment of the authenticity of the confession letter by the involved LKAs cannot be confirmed." However, they believe the attacks have a left-wing extremist background.
The Berlin investigators hope to get clues about the perpetrators through trace evidence found at the scene. The police are investigating whether there are DNA traces or fingerprints. The material used could also provide information about who is behind the act.
Disruptions in local and long-distance traffic
The fire has caused, among other things, that switches could not be set, affecting the section between Berlin main station and Spandau. The stop in Spandau is therefore omitted.
Long-distance trains are being rerouted via the northern outer ring to Gesundbrunnen and the main station. The ring train is running between Beusselstraße and Westend only on one track and at a ten-minute interval.
The trains are expected to run regularly again from Wednesday morning, as stated by a spokesperson for the railway. Currently, damaged cables are being replaced and tested for functionality.
The investigation into the cable fire at Deutsche Bahn in Berlin involves collaboration with German Railways in Hamburg and Bremen, as they recently had a suspected arson incident on their railway line. The manuscript found on a left-wing platform, allegedly from the left-wing scene, is also being examined by the Berlin investigators for potential clues about the perpetrators of both incidents.
