- Police are evacuating trains and stations for a man with a knife.
Large-scale police operation triggered at Memmingen station in Swabia by a drunk passenger armed with a combat knife among other things. Federal police officers arrested the 31-year-old on Thursday evening using a trick, according to investigators.
After the train staff called the police, around 13 patrol cars from federal and state police cordoned off Memmingen station, the next stop of the train. Under the pretext of a technical fault, the train instructed the approximately 200 passengers to disembark - this also helped to prevent panic among the passengers. After disembarking, the officers arrested the man, who had 1.7 per mille in an alcohol breath test, without resistance and took him into custody.
The man had reportedly boarded the long-distance train to Munich in Zurich and had been noticed. In addition to the combat knife, he also had an assisted-opening knife with an eleven-centimeter blade, two cans of pepper spray, and several shooting glasses. During the journey, he also stole a laptop from a train attendant.
The reason why the man boarded the train armed remained initially unclear. He did not attack or threaten any passengers, the Federal Police reported. A judge will decide on remand for the 31-year-old on Friday. Investigations are ongoing for violations of the Weapons Act and armed theft.
