Police after Hansa vs. Hertha: Few incidents
According to the security forces, there were only a few incidents during the police operation at the second division match between FC Hansa Rostock and Hertha BSC. The match (0:0) on Sunday had been classified as a high-risk match due to the rival fan camps.
A total of 2600 Hertha soccer fans had traveled to Rostock. According to the police, the shuttle to the Ostseestadion ran smoothly. The joint walk of 700 Hansa supporters to the stadium caused only brief traffic disruptions.
During the match, people from the Berlin spectator block had tried to dismantle glass partitions to the south stand. The partitions were damaged in the process. The police had previously agreed with FC Hansa to deploy security forces between the home and visiting fan areas and to separate the supporters of the two clubs.
Hertha fans set off pyrotechnics during and after the match and also threw them in the direction of the police officers. "The suspects are now being investigated for violating the Explosives Act and causing grievous bodily harm," the police statement read.
A pig's head covered with a Berlin fan scarf placed in the area of the south stand had caused "further provocation from both fan camps" in addition to chants.
Several fans from Berlin reported to the police that Hertha paraphernalia had been stolen by unknown persons. A total of two criminal charges had been filed by late Sunday afternoon. According to the police, 850 officers from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Berlin and Schleswig-Holstein were deployed.
Despite the high-risk classification, the Bundesliga 2 match between Hansa Rostock and Hertha BSC resulted in only a few incidents. Despite the attempted dismantling of glass partitions by Hertha fans, Hansa Rostock's Bundesliga 2 rival, Hansa Rostock managed to maintain order with the help of the agreed-upon security measures.
