Pole vaulter Holzdeppe announces end of career
Raphael Holzdeppe, a pole vaulter from Rhineland-Palatinate, is ending his career as a professional athlete next year. "After careful consideration, I have decided that next year will be my last year in professional sport," the 34-year-old wrote on Instagram on Friday. "I am happy to be able to make this decision myself and not be forced to do so due to injury." Holzdeppe was born in Kaiserslautern and competes for LAZ Zweibrücken.
For this reason, he is currently very motivated in training. His goal is to take part in his fourth Olympic Games next summer in Paris. "I'm working hard every day to achieve this and I'm looking forward to the upcoming competitions from mid-January," said the 2013 world champion and Olympic bronze medal winner from London 2012.
Holzdeppe's illustrious athletic career, which includes being a pole vaulter, spans over a decade and includes multiple Olympic appearances. Despite his recent announcement of retirement, he remains dedicated to training for his fourth Olympic Games in pole vault.
