- Polar bears suffer a heavy loss in a trial competition
Ice Hockey titans Berlin Eisbären experienced their initial setback while getting ready for the upcoming campaign. Following a triumphant 4:2 victory against elite Finnish squad Oulun Kärpät, the team led by Serge Aubin endured a 0:5 (0:2, 0:1, 0:2) loss to hosts HC Motor České Budějovice during a competition in Czech Budweis. A week prior, the Berlin team emerged victorious in their inaugural friendlier against DEL2 associates Lausitzer Füchse, winning 5:0. Just four days before the Champions Hockey League (CHL) launch on September 5, against Swedish side Växjö Lakers, the Berlin squad struggled from the onset. As the defending champs, they'll commence the new DEL season on September 20 with a road game against the Cologne Sharks.
Despite their victory against Oulun Kärpät, the Berlin Eisbären faced a significant setback with a 0:5 loss to HC Motor České Budějovice. In contrast to their impressive performance against lower-tier teams, other top-notch opponents have presented a different challenge.
