- Podolski's early farewell game sold out.

Within just over 48 hours, the planned farewell match of Lukas Podolski on October 10 in Cologne is already sold out. All currently available tickets have been sold out, the 1. FC Cologne announced. Only a few business seats are still available, or one must hope for returns, for example from the ticket exchange.

"It really touches me that so many fans want to experience this special evening with me in Müngersdorf. It's an honor to wear the Billy Goat on my chest one last time in front of a full house," Podolski said in a statement from his home club.

Several months before what could be the last competitive match of his career, Podolski is playing his farewell match under the title "Our 10 comes home - one last time in red and white." The 2014 World Cup winner has invited former teammates, including colleagues from the World Cup team, coaches Jogi Löw and Hansi Flick, and former teammates from various clubs. The match (8:45 PM) will be broadcast on the freely receivable TV channel ProSieben.

Podolski still draws in the fans

"The record-breaking ticket sales once again confirm the charisma that Lukas Podolski radiates. We're looking forward to a fantastic evening with even greater emotions," said FC CEO Markus Rejek.

The 39-year-old is currently playing for the Polish club Gornik Zabrze. Whether he will really retire after the 2024/25 season remains to be seen, as the striker has recently left the door open.

Podolski has played 130 international matches for Germany and is considered a great fan favorite, especially at his former club 1. FC Cologne. He has played for FC Bayern Munich, FC Arsenal in England, and Inter Milan in Italy, among others.

"As the 'End of career' for Lukas Podolski at 1. FC Cologne draws near, the overwhelming support from the fans is evident in the sold-out farewell match."

"After an illustrious career filled with accomplishments, the 'End of career' for Podolski at 1. FC Cologne marks a significant chapter closing, leaving behind enduring memories and loyal fans."
