Lukas Podolski, who's a significant presence in the team, has denied taking up a leading role at 1. FC Cologne right now. He told Bild, "I'm not planning on joining FC in a top position any time soon. People have been talking about it and I've even received some calls but I'm still playing football and I find joy in it. I want to keep playing for another year, so nothing like that is on my mind at the moment." He clarified, "There's no specific offer from the FC either."

There's a lot of talk about what the future holds for Cologne after their relegation to the Second League. Timo Schultz, their coach, will be leaving the club when his contract ends in June. On this, Podolski said, "Sure, there must've been some other errors too. But they need to examine them themselves and make their own choices. It goes without saying: The club has to face the consequences. It's not enough to say, 'We've examined everything and we didn't make any mistakes.' You can't be that blind."

Podolski is held in high esteem by Cologne fans, as he started his career with them. Right now, he plies his trade for Górnik Zabrze in Poland.
