Court hearing - Pleas in trial for fatal traffic accident
After around ten months of hearings, the trial surrounding a fatal traffic accident at a traffic circle is coming to a close today (9.30 a.m.). After 25 days of hearings, the jury chamber of the Frankfurt Regional Court will hear the closing submissions from the public prosecution, defense and joint plaintiffs.
The accused is a 34-year-old driver who drove into a couple who had been kissing on a crosswalk in Kriftel (Main-Taunus district) in August 2015. The woman (41) fell under the car, was dragged 400 meters and ultimately died from her serious injuries. The 34-year-old is charged with manslaughter - however, the court has indicated that he could also be convicted of murder. In a first trial in 2018, he received five and a half years in prison.
