Court hearing - Pleadings postponed in fatal accident trial
Due to the illness of the presiding judge, the closing speeches in the trial surrounding a fatal accident on a crosswalk have been postponed to February 6 at short notice. Although the judge was present at the trial on Friday, he was unable to follow the statements of the public prosecutor, defense and joint plaintiffs' representatives for several hours.
In the trial, a 34-year-old German man is on trial for manslaughter. In August 2015, he drove towards a couple kissing on a crosswalk at a traffic circle in Kriftel (Main-Taunus district). The 41-year-old woman fell under the car, was dragged 400 meters and died from her serious injuries. (AZ 3629 Js 234487/15)
The defendant had already been sentenced to five and a half years in prison by the regional court at the beginning of 2018. However, the Federal Court of Justice overturned this sentence following an appeal by the public prosecutor's office. During the second trial, the accused was finally remanded in custody in August. He could also have been guilty of murder, the court was told.
