Crime - Players were given information about the man under the stadium roof

German and Danish players were informed about a man on the roof construction of Dortmund's football stadium during the EM-Quarterfinals. The incidents, however, had no concrete effects on the game flow or the departure after the match.

The English referee instructed Ilkay Gündogan and Kasper Schmeichel to the midfield before the second half, after receiving a tip from a UEFA delegate. Images showed all three looking up towards the stadium roof. The game continued without any noticeable disruption for the players.

No clear findings yet

According to police reports, the man had reached the roof of the stadium at around 10:27 pm. The English newspaper "Daily Mail" published images showing that he had climbed from the accessible platforms under the stadium roof to the beams of the roof construction. There is currently no information that the 21-year-old intended to endanger stadium visitors, the police statement read.

Law enforcement reportedly approached the man after the final whistle and spoke to him. A helicopter also illuminated the stadium roof. In the published video, some spectators can be seen briefly in the background at the time of the intervention, indicating that many had already left the stadium.

UEFA remains silent

The incident raises questions about the security concept of the EM. There have been numerous incidents during the group stage where spectators ran onto the pitch to take photos with the players. The European Football Union UEFA commented on the matter on Sunday morning, "We have no further comment," they said in response to an inquiry from the German Press Agency.
