CO2 reduction - Plant manufacturer Gea sets itself more ambitious climate plans

Plant manufacturer Gea wants to involve its shareholders to a greater extent than has been the case to date when tightening up its climate plans. The company published a plan in Düsseldorf on Tuesday, according to which its own CO2 emissions are to be reduced by 60 percent by 2026. The reference year is 2019. Previously, this reduction was not to be achieved until 2030. According to the new plan, a reduction of 80 percent should be achieved by then. Shareholders are expected to approve the plan at the next Gea Annual General Meeting. Such a vote is unusual for larger companies. However, the result of the vote is not binding for the Management Board.

"After positioning ourselves at the forefront of our industry two years ago with an ambitious climate strategy, we are now stepping up the pace and going one step further," said CEO Stefan Klebert. The planned vote will actively involve shareholders in the climate protection process.

Gea has more than 18,000 employees worldwide, with a turnover of 5.1 billion euros in 2022. Its products include milking robots for cows, exhaust gas purification systems, packaging systems, freezing systems and brewery systems.

Gea's Annual General Meeting is scheduled to take place, where shareholders will be asked to approve the company's revised climate plans. The new plan includes a more ambitious target to reduce Gea's CO2 emissions by 80% by 2026, compared to a previous goal of 60% by 2030. This tightening of climate plans is part of Gea's commitment to plant engineering and mechanical engineering, being a major player in industries like milking robots, exhaust gas purification systems, and brewery systems. As a German company based in North Rhine-Westphalia, with its headquarters in Düsseldorf, Gea's climate actions contribute to Germany's efforts to combat climate change.
