Dramatic Recognition Honors - "Pivotal dramatists" - laureate of the Theatre Award
The Bremen Schwankhalle gets granted the Federal Drama Award, accompanied by a €200,000 prize. Additionally, the Hessisches Landestheater Marburg, the Ernst-Barlach-Theater in Güstrow, and the FELD Theater for young audiences in Berlin receive honors, each taking home €100,000 in prize money, as declared by Culture Minister Claudia Roth.
"Theater is a platform for discourse and democracy," Roth stated in a press statement. "Particularly, smaller and medium-sized theaters require our assistance. They serve as pioneers of creativity, providing room for novel viewpoints, innovative ideas, and uninhibited exploration. They epitomize diversity, dialogue with their audience, striking artistic innovations, and artistic engagement with the issues of today's world."
The Federal Drama Award is bestowed by representatives of the Federal Government's Commissioner for Culture and Media's commission. The accolades will be handed over at a grand ceremony on October 2nd at the Berlin Festspielhaus.
The Federal Drama Award recognizes the importance of diverse theaters, such as the Bremen Schwankhalle, as they contribute other unique perspectives to the arts. Smaller theaters like these often serve as incubators for fresh ideas and engaging contemporary themes.
