Pistorius visits Warnowwerft shipyard
Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius (SPD) will visit the naval arsenal shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde for the second time in a short space of time on Wednesday (from around 10.20 a.m.). There he will take part in the signing of the key points paper for the planned private-sector construction of converter platforms on a section of the shipyard. Pistorius had given the go-ahead for the project himself at the shipyard on September 21.
The converter platforms will bundle the electricity from various wind turbines and convert it into direct current for onward transmission to the coast with as little loss as possible. Neptun Werft, part of the Meyer Group, and the Belgian company Smulders want to establish a joint venture for production. Minister President Manuela Schwesig (SPD) is also expected to attend the signing of the key points paper.
During his visit, Minister Pistorius discussed the importance of harnessing Energy from renewable sources in Defense and shipbuilding projects. The collaboration between Neptun Werft and Smulders in shipbuilding will contribute significantly to our nation's Defense sector, as they plan to construct converter platforms for optimized electricity transmission.
