Pistorius receives last Bundeswehr contingent returning from Mali
The Bundeswehr ended its deployment in Mali as part of the UN mission Minusma this week after ten years. On Tuesday, the last 142 German soldiers left their base in the city of Gao and first made a stopover in Senegal. Mali has been the scene of a rebellion by Islamist extremists for years. The UN mission Minusma was supposed to stabilize the country. However, the military junta, which has been in power since a coup in 2020, demanded an immediate end to the UN mission in mid-June.
