Pisa study: German pupils perform worse than ever before

German pupils performed worse than ever before in the international Pisa performance comparison in 2022. In reading as well as in mathematics and science, these are the lowest values ever measured for Germany in Pisa. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) announced in Berlin on Tuesday that average performance had also fallen drastically internationally.

The 'Pisa' study, conducted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), revealed that German schools have been consistently underperforming in the international comparison of Pisa scores, with German pupils showing the lowest values ever recorded in reading, mathematics, and science in 2022. This disappointing performance in education is a cause for concern within Germany and beyond. Despite Germany's strong economy and highly-regarded education system, its international standing in the 'Pisa study' has been steadily declining over the years.
