Conference League - Piraeus, Ajax, Molde? Eintracht tickets for Conference League
Eintracht Frankfurt want to erase the cold December evening in Aberdeen from their memories as quickly as possible. No home fans and a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of a weak Scottish team should not be the benchmark when the Conference League continues in February. Up north to Norwegian representative FK Molde? Or down south to Olympiakos Piraeus? The Eintracht fans who were not admitted to the match in Scotland can look forward to an attractive destination in Monday's draw.
Piraeus, Molde, Ajax Amsterdam, Betis Sevilla, Sturm Graz, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, Maccabi Haifa and Servette FC are the possible opponents. That's eight teams from eight different countries. In terms of sport and atmosphere, Ajax in particular should be an exciting draw.
"Nobody from the Europa League is looking forward to playing against us either," Dino Toppmöller has already announced. The coach has to worry about the absence of Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe at the end of the season after he twisted his ankle in the meaningless group final.
Toppmöller was disappointed with the course of the game and his team's performance. "Maybe the starting position in the group was in the subconscious of one or two of us, but that's no excuse, because we have every intention of coming here and winning the game," said the 43-year-old coach.
With three wins and three defeats, the team's record in what is actually a feasible preliminary round group is mixed. On February 15 and 22, they have the chance to do better against a Europa League relegated team and thus secure their ticket to the round of 16.
