Photo with gesture of Turkish right-wing extremists: Suspension
A Thuringian police officer who is alleged to have shown the Turkish "wolf salute" is no longer allowed to report for duty for the time being. In addition to the suspension, disciplinary proceedings have also been initiated, the Thuringian police announced on Monday. The officer will continue to receive his pay for the time being.
A photo had previously circulated on the X platform (formerly Twitter) showing the police officer posing with this gesture in a kebab store in Arnstadt. The "wolf salute" is a well-known symbol of the right-wing extremist Turkish "Ülkücü" movement. It involves holding up the index finger and little finger, with the other fingers forming a kind of snout.
A police spokesman said that investigations would have to show whether the man had actually acted out of right-wing extremist sentiments. The officer had commented on the matter, but the spokesman did not give any details. He could not estimate how long the suspension and disciplinary proceedings would last. As the most severe measure, the officer could be completely removed from the police force.
The photo sparked concerns about the officer's alleged affiliations with right-wing extremism due to the "wolf salute." The Turkish "Ülkücü" movement, known for its right-wing extremist ideology, uses this gesture as a symbol.
