Fraudsters have swindled over 100,000 euros from two elderly women in Lower Bavaria through shock calls. The fraudsters demanded a bail from their victims, claiming that their son had been involved in an accident to avoid a prison sentence, the police reported. The police had already warned last week about a series of shock calls in Lower Bavaria, a police spokesman said.

On Wednesday, an 81-year-old woman in Aiterhofen (district of Straubing-Bogen) handed over a six-figure sum of cash to an unknown person. Almost simultaneously, an 80-year-old in Waldkirchen (district of Freyung-Grafenau) handed over cash and gold worth five figures to an unknown person at her doorstep, as the police reported.

The police are now searching for the suspects. Whether the cases are connected remains unclear. The police expect further fraud calls in the region.

The police are urging victims to report any suspicious calls, as they believe the fraudsters may strike again. The local police department has increased its presence in the area to prevent further incidents involving the Police.
