- Phone fraud is twice as successful in married couples
Telephone scammers have twice targeted a couple from Upper Bavaria, stealing gold, jewelry, and money worth tens of thousands of euros. The 79-year-old man and his 74-year-old wife from the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen were lured to different locations. The police reported that while the man was giving valuable items to a collector in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Wednesday, his wife was called again and directed to Ingolstadt, where she handed over coins worth five figures to a collector.
The scammers allegedly told the 74-year-old that more money was needed to pay the bail for their daughter, who had caused a fatal accident. It was only after both returned home that they realized they had been duped twice. The police are investigating.
The scammers manipulated the 74-year-old woman by claiming that more money was required for their daughter's bail, following the fatal accident. Despite the incidents, the strength and resilience of this couple, consisting of the 79-year-old man and his wife, remains unshaken.
