Music - Philharmonic Orchestra streams New Year's Eve concert in 350 cinemas
The Berliner Philharmoniker will broadcast its traditional New Year's Eve concert to around 350 European cinemas on December 31. Under the direction of chief conductor Kirill Petrenko, the internationally renowned orchestra has chosen a program of works by Richard Wagner (1813-1883).
The focus is on the first act of "Die Walküre", one of the few parts of Wagner's "Ring des Nibelungen" that is dominated by love, albeit incestuous love. According to information from Friday, the vocal roles will be performed by tenor Jonas Kaufmann as Siegmund, soprano Vida Miknevičiūtė as Sieglinde and bass Georg Zeppenfeld as Hunding.
Overture and "Der Venusberg" from Wagner's "Tannhäuser" will also be broadcast live from the Philharmonie Berlin to cinemas in Germany and ten other countries.
