Charity concert - Philharmonic Orchestra plays for hostages and civilians
With a charity concert, the Berliner Philharmoniker with chief conductor Kirill Petrenko and musical guests want to set an example for the release of the Israeli hostages and the protection of the Palestinian and Israeli civilian population. Under the motto "Together for Humanity", renowned musicians from all over the world will come together on December 20, according to information from Thursday.
Pianist Martha Argerich, pianist Kirill Gerstein, baritone Thomas Hampson, cellist Steven Isserlis, soprano Anna Prohaska and violinist Christian Tetzlaff will all be taking part. The pianist Iddo Bar-Shaï, the oud player Taiseer Elias and the singers Noa and Mira Awad will be joined by Israeli and Palestinian-Israeli artists. The program, at a standard price of 25 euros plus donation option, ends with Max Bruch's orchestral work Kol Nidrei, played by the Philharmoniker under Petrenko.
"The human suffering in the Middle East continues unabated," reads the announcement. "Following Hamas' murderous attack on Israel on October 7 and in the midst of a devastating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, more than a hundred hostages kidnapped from Israel are still being held captive. Their lives and those of the civilian population in Gaza and Israel are in grave danger."
