Pharmacies close in protest on Wednesday
Thousands of pharmacies in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria will remain closed on Wednesday to protest against the situation in the sector. The State Pharmacists' Association (LAV) recommends that patients should buy medicines that can be planned before the day of protest or on the Thursday after. There are also emergency pharmacies. Several thousand pharmacists from both federal states will use the day of protest to draw attention to their situation on Stuttgart's Schlossplatz from 12.05 pm.
"Our protest will not start at 12.05 p.m. for nothing, because our current situation is more than worrying," said Tatjana Zambo, President of the Baden-Württemberg Pharmacists' Association, in the run-up to the rally. The number of pharmacies has fallen to its lowest level in 40 years and the supply system is being cut to the bone. "We want to oppose this with our protest," said Zambo. There had already been a nationwide day of protest in mid-June.
- The pharmacists' protest against the sector's situation highlights their concern about the impact on consumer health, as many medications might not be readily available due to the closures of numerous pharmacies.
- The pharmaceutical industry is closely watching the demonstrations, as they could potentially impact the supply and distribution of medicine, affecting numerous diseases treatment plans.
- Despite the pharmacies' closed doors on Wednesday, some pharmaceutical companies are offering digital platforms or alternate services to ensure continuous access to essential medicines for concerned consumers during the demonstrations.
