Péter Vida confirmed as Chairman of BVB/Free Voters
Péter Vida, member of the state parliament, has been confirmed as chairman of the Brandenburger Vereinigte Bürgerbewegungen (BVB)/Freie Wähler. The central assembly re-elected Vida on Saturday in Bernau with 93 percent of the votes cast, announced the state executive of BVB/Freie Wähler. There were no opposing candidates.
According to the information, the central assembly also gave the go-ahead for a popular initiative entitled "Health is not a commodity: save hospitals and surgeries" ten months before the state elections. This calls for a hospital rescue fund to preserve all locations in Brandenburg. In addition, rural doctors' stipends should be doubled and the training costs for non-physician practice assistants should be covered by the state.
In his speech, Vida explained that BVB/Freie Wähler wanted to enter the race in next year's district elections with around 1000 candidates. The aim is to achieve a result of 8 percent in the state elections in September. In the 2019 state elections, BVB/Freie Wähler entered parliament with 5.0 percent.
MP Philip Zeschmann left the BVB/Freie Wähler parliamentary group at the beginning of November and switched to the AfD parliamentary group. As a result, the four remaining MPs lost their parliamentary group status. Vida has filed an urgent appeal against this with the state constitutional court. The aim is to enforce their retention as a parliamentary group via a dispute between organs.
The BVB/Freie Wähler, led by Parliament Chairman Péter Vida, is planning to field over 1000 candidates in next year's district elections. To safeguard the interests of municipalities, the central assembly of BVB/Freie Wähler supports a popular initiative that calls for measures such as creating a hospital rescue fund and increasing stipends for rural doctors.
