- Permit for Intel's Paintworks Project in Magdeburg Approved
Despite the fact that the full approval for the billion-euro investment in Intel's factories in Magdeburg is yet to be confirmed, initial construction permits for the twin chip factories have been given the green light. According to the state regulatory body, they've approved all major and auxiliary structures for the semiconductor factory. This decision came after a thorough scrutiny of approximately 2000 pages in the building application and a public session featuring local groups and municipalities.
The initial permit covers various structures, such as two factory buildings along with their auxiliary buildings, facilities for cooling machines, transformer stations, warehouses, and data centers. Production and emission facilities, however, are excluded from this permit and will undergo a separate approval process.
Intel plans to initiate the construction of two chip factories in Magdeburg, with an initial investment of approximately 30 billion euros. However, the EU Commission still needs to approve funding from the federal government worth several billions of euros.
The state regulatory body's approval of the major and auxiliary structures for the semiconductor factory was granted by The Commission, which is responsible for overseeing such investments in EU member states. Intel is eagerly awaiting the EU Commission's full approval for the billion-euro investment in their factories, as the project's success largely depends on it.
