Weather - Permafrost at the start of Advent in Thuringia
For the first weekend of Advent, people in Thuringia can expect permafrost and scattered fresh snow. On Saturday, temperatures will be between minus three and minus eight degrees into the morning, according to the German Weather Service. During the day, permafrost will continue with a maximum of minus one degree. There is a risk of slippery conditions in places due to freezing rain and light snowfall. In the evening, up to three centimetres of fresh snow may fall in the southern Harz, Eichsfeld and Thuringian Forest. At night, temperatures will range between minus four and minus nine degrees. There may be further snow showers.
On Advent Sunday, it will remain overcast until midday and it may snow. It will be zero degrees at most. Temperatures will then drop to minus eight degrees on Monday night.
