Weather - Permafrost and danger of slippery roads in Baden-Württemberg
The sun is shining in large parts of Baden-Württemberg for the first Advent. However, the permafrost is set to remain - the German Weather Service (DWD) continues to warn of icy conditions. "The snow will thaw during the day, then freezing wetness must be expected at night," said a DWD spokesperson on Sunday. Drivers should therefore be particularly vigilant.
On Monday night, temperatures will drop to minus four degrees on the Rhine to minus 20 degrees in the Swabian Alb and the southern Black Forest. "At such sub-zero temperatures, car batteries go flat and gritted roads freeze again," warns the DWD. On Monday, dense clouds and warmer air with light precipitation will come from the west. The freezing rain will further increase the risk of black ice. Temperatures will be between minus four degrees in the Ulm area and five degrees on the southern Upper Rhine. It will also be warmer on Tuesday. "We can expect a change in the weather with a thaw," says the DWD.
Meanwhile, restrictions on train services are still to be expected due to the weather. "The situation remains unchanged," says a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn (DB). Travelers will have to be prepared for considerable restrictions throughout Sunday. The south-east of Baden-Württemberg, especially the Ulm area, is severely affected. Trains to and from Munich are still not running. The railroad asked travelers to inform themselves on the Internet before starting their journey. The train service has been canceled for Sunday.
