Penultimate Cologne receives series champion Bayern
FC Bayern is coming now of all times: To kick off matchday 12 in the Bundesliga, penultimate-placed FC Köln will host the serial champions on Friday (20:30/DAZN). Although they are only second in the table behind Bayer Leverkusen, they have picked up 29 points in eleven games - 23 more than Cologne. In addition, FC coach Steffen Baumgart has, as he himself admits, a "subterranean record" against Munich, picking up just one point in seven league games.
But last year, Baumgart and Cologne looked good twice against the champions of the last eleven years: in the first leg in Munich, FC led 1-0 until the 90th minute, and in the second leg in their own stadium, they held on to a 1-1 draw until the 89th minute. However, Bayern scored late on both occasions. Jamal Musiala's goal in Cologne made Bayern champions 181 days before Friday's clash.
Despite their poor performance so far in the Bundesliga, 1st FC Cologne will face FC Bayern Munich, the serial champions, in their upcoming match. Regrettably for Cologne, they have a poor record against Bayern, managing only one point in seven league games under coach Steffen Baumgart.
