Shortly before opening to traffic - Pedestrians are allowed on the new Salzbachtal bridge for one day
Shortly before the new Salzbachtal bridge is opened to traffic, the city of Wiesbaden is inviting people to a kind of "open day" on the structure. On Saturday (from 10.00 a.m.), interested parties can explore the bridge on foot before the first cars roll over it on Monday. This also marks the end of the traffic disruptions in the western Rhine-Main region that have been ongoing for two and a half years. This is because the Salzbachtal Bridge is part of the important Autobahn 66, which runs between the Rheingau region via Wiesbaden to Frankfurt.
The old structure had to be closed suddenly in summer 2021 due to the risk of collapse, and the highway was closed at the site. Demolition and new construction followed in a comparatively short time.
