Traffic accident - Pedestrian is hit by public bus in Stade and dies
A pedestrian has been hit and fatally injured by a bus in Stade. The 68-year-old driver of the bus was traveling in a commercial area in Stade when he hit the man with the vehicle on Thursday evening, according to the police. The pedestrian then fell under the vehicle. He had to be rescued by firefighters, but had already succumbed to his life-threatening injuries.
The pedestrian, who had no papers on him, had suddenly turned around for unknown reasons and jumped directly in front of the approaching bus. Despite braking immediately, the driver was unable to prevent the accident.
Apart from a shock, the bus driver was uninjured and the passengers on the bus also escaped without injury. Heidbecker Damm had to be fully closed for the duration of the rescue and recovery operations and the accident investigation.
