The Hessian Peace Prize 2023 was presented for the first time posthum at a ceremony hour on a Monday at the Landtag in Wiesbaden - and it was awarded to the Canadian-Israeli peace activist Vivian Silver. The statement from the Landtag revealed that she had dedicated more than half a century of her heart to peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians.

Silver was born in 1949 in Winnipeg, Canada. The statement further mentioned that she had first gone to Israel in 1968 and later moved there with her husband and their two sons. In a communication, it was stated that the Kibbutz where she lived was one of the first targets of the Hamas terror attack on October 7, 2023. Silver was also killed in the attack. The Peace Prize is worth 25,000 Euros and was accepted on her behalf by one of her sons.
