Religion - Peace light is passed on in Saxony-Anhalt

The Light of Peace lit in Bethlehem will be passed on in Saxony-Anhalt over the next few days. An ecumenical sending out ceremony took place in Halberstadt on Sunday. "We are passing on the light," said diocesan chairman Christian Darius. According to the Catholic association, a good 400 scouts are active.

The light will not only be passed on to churches and social institutions, but also to the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt and Minister President Reiner Haseloff (CDU). The light can also be taken home from the churches, said Darius. We want to carry more and more light into the world and encourage people to think about peace. "The more candles burn, the brighter it gets."

The motto of this year's Peace Light campaign is "In search of peace". The Peace Light campaign was launched in 1986 by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation to distribute it to "all people of good will". Since then, every year a child lights the flame in the grotto where Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
