Payback's alert concerns phishing calls where scammers pose as bonus card platform representatives. They attempt to convince consumers that their offer is highly advantageous, all while requesting bank details.

It is crucial to reiterate that under no circumstances should individuals disclose their personal information. The Consumer Advisory Center consistently issues phishing warnings.

Given the prevalence of online and phone scams, consumers should exercise even greater vigilance. In the worst-case scenario, falling victim to another phishing scam via email or phone could result in the loss of all savings in bank accounts.

In late 2020, Payback issued a security warning about phone fraud, similar to the current situation. Scammers impersonate bonus card platform employees, promising clients even greater benefits.

To access these supposed benefits, providing bank details is required. Nicole Mertgen-Zauer from the Consumer Advisory Center explicitly warns against such fraudulent calls. Citizens should not disclose information or passwords over the phone.

If asked for such information during a call, it is a scam. All affected clients who have become victims of phishing calls should act promptly.

The first step is to report to the bank to block online access and the account.

Afterward, the number to call is 116 116, a nationwide hotline in Germany. It can quickly resolve the issue. The key is not to delay. Rapidly blocking all accounts prevents scammers from withdrawing money.

In relation to the warning about phishing calls, AOK advises against sharing sensitive information over the phone. This is crucial to avoid falling victim to such scams. Furthermore, if someone requests bank details during a call, it's likely a scam and should be reported immediately to the nationwide hotline in Germany, number 116 116.
