Currency - Pay with the "Saarschleife": New 2-euro coin
From 2025, it will be possible to pay with the"Saarschleife": The Federal Government has decided to mint a 2-euro "Saarland" coin depicting the Saar Loop near Mettlach, the Federal Ministry of Finance announced in Berlin on Wednesday. The coin is to be issued in January 2025. The mintage intended for circulation will be up to 30 million pieces. The Saarschleife is considered a landmark of the Saarland.
The coin is part of the "Bundesländer II" series, in which a country is to be honored annually by issuing a 2-euro commemorative coin with a striking landmark. The order of the federal states is based on the presidency of the Bundesrat. The first coin series "Bundesländer" was launched in 2006 with Schleswig-Holstein and the motif "Holstentor".
Saarland will take over the presidency of the Bundesrat for one year on November 1, 2024.
