Passenger ship with passengers drifts on the Rhine

A passenger ship with 173 people on board has drifted on the Rhine near Trechtingshausen (Mainz-Bingen district) due to engine damage. The water police announced on Friday that the ship had lost two anchors while attempting an emergency anchoring. A cargo ship sailing behind it had to perform an evasive maneuver on Thursday and tore a fairway buoy from its anchorage. However, the freighter remained undamaged and was able to continue its journey. An engine on the passenger ship was finally able to be restarted and the ship was able to continue its journey to Rüdesheim. No one was injured.

The engine damage caused the passenger ship to experience accidents in its navigation, leading to the loss of two anchors during an emergency anchoring. Despite this, incidents of shipping were reported when a cargo ship had to perform an evasive maneuver due to the drifting passenger ship, tearing a fairway buoy from its anchorage.
