Tariff dispute - Passenger association calls for longer lead time for warning strikes

The passenger association Pro Bahn is calling for sufficient preparation time for commuters and travelers in light of the warning strike announcement by the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL). "What we criticize is the short notice. We would like it to be announced two days in advance when the strike will take place so that passengers can prepare for it," federal chairman Detlef Neuß told dpa on Wednesday evening. In the most recent case, it was only one day.

"We would like a longer lead time so that home office can be arranged with the employer or a carpool can be formed," said the head of the passenger association Pro Bahn. In addition, there are many travelers on Fridays who are going on vacation or home for the weekend. The effects of the warning strike, which is planned by the GDL until 10 p.m. on Friday evening, will probably continue into Saturday. At the same time, Neuß emphasized: "We are not questioning the right to strike."

The GDL has called on its members to go on another warning strike at Deutsche Bahn. From Thursday evening, 10 p.m., until Friday evening, 10 p.m., passengers will once again have to prepare for thousands of train cancellations in nationwide rail traffic. The strike has been called by all employees in the long-distance and regional transport sectors, among others, as well as employees of the suburban trains in Berlin and Hamburg, as announced by the GDL on Wednesday evening.
