Partially more masks for protection in hospitals again
In some clinics in central Germany, there is once again a stricter mask requirement or at least a recommendation to wear a protective mask. With immediate effect, visitors to Magdeburg Hospital, for example, must once again wear medical face masks throughout the hospital, as the hospital announced on request. At Magdeburg University Hospital, wearing a face mask or FFP2 mask is strongly recommended. The recommendation should be continued as long as the high rate of respiratory infections in the population persists, it said. The Volksstimme newspaper had previously reported on the obligation at Magdeburg Hospital.
The University Hospital in Leipzig also recommends that employees wear mouth and nose protection when in contact with patients as a preventative measure in the coming months due to the rising number of respiratory illnesses. There are no plans to make this compulsory. In Chemnitz, the wearing of masks is generally recommended in critical areas such as emergency rooms and intensive care units. If the proportion of patients with respiratory diseases exceeds a certain percentage, masks will initially be mandatory in patient areas and then throughout the hospital. Relatives should refrain from visiting if they are ill.
According to the Dresden Municipal Hospital, there is no general mask requirement. Instead, various measures are in place to prevent the spread of typical seasonal infections. For example, employees who have had unprotected contact with a Covid patient wear a face mask for five days afterwards. At Helios Vogtland-Klinikum Plauen, there is currently no obligation to wear masks or restrictions on visiting. Masks are also not compulsory at the Helios Thüringen Mitte clinics (Gotha, Bleicherode, Blankenhain and Erfurt).
In response to the rise in respiratory infections, hospitals in some regions are urging healthcare workers to wear FFP2 masks when interacting with patients to prevent the spread of diseases, such as Covid-19 or Corona. Due to the high rate of respiratory infections in the population, many hospitals, like Magdeburg University Hospital, are recommending visitors to wear medical face masks throughout the hospital.
