Delivering goods with vessels - Parliamentary panels examine HHLA arrangement.
Discussions about MSC's potential entry into the Hamburg Port Logistics Company (HHLA) are set to take place in the Hamburg Parliament's committees on Tuesday. The Economic Committee and the Committee for Public Enterprises will attend a joint meeting to continue the senate hearing.
The Red-Green alliance aims to include the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) in the handling of containers at the Hamburg Port by teaming up with HHLA. The city and the family-owned Italian shipping company Aponte will run the HHLA as a joint venture, with the city owning the majority share at 50.1%. Currently, the city has around 70% of the publicly traded HHLA.
The Parliament's approval is required for this move, which seems likely given the two-thirds majority support from the SPD and Greens. However, the opposition voices concerns and feels that they have not been given enough information about the exact terms of the agreements by the Senate.
