Düsseldorf - Parliament visitor caught with a knife: police operation

Security alert on the fringes of the plenary session in the Düsseldorf state parliament: According to dpa information, a knife with a 15.5-centimeter blade was found in the rucksack of a registered visitor (37) at the entrance gate on Friday morning. The police seized the knife and filed charges. A police spokeswoman confirmed the operation on request.

A parliamentary group spokesperson also confirmed that the man belonged to a group of visitors led by AfD MP Christian Loose. The spokesperson emphasized that the man was not an AfD member. The fact that the visitor wanted to bring a weapon into parliament was condemned in the strongest terms. The reaction of parliament and the police was absolutely correct.

According to dpa information, the man and his group wanted to attend the plenary session as spectators. According to reports, the man claimed that he had forgotten the knife in his rucksack and had not brought it with him on purpose. It had been noticed at the security gate of the Landtag when the visitor's luggage was screened.

The private security service called the police at 8.44 am. According to the spokeswoman, they are now investigating a weapons offense. The visitor was sent home from the Landtag.
