Associations - Parliament for people with disabilities meets in Berlin

Berlin's parliament for the disabled discussed improvements for people with disabilities in the House of Representatives on Saturday. Parliamentary Vice-President Dennis Buchner welcomed the representatives of disabled people's associations to the meeting. "Participation must not just be a buzzword," said the SPD politician. "It must be implemented at all levels of our social coexistence and must also be visible. We must not fall behind this standard."

The initiator of the Disabled Persons' Parliament, Christian Specht, said at the start that the parliament must become even better known so that it is taken seriously. The Berlin Disabled Persons' Parliament (BPP) was initially launched digitally in 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic and met for the first time in the House of Representatives in 2022. The aim is to work with members of parliament and representatives of the state government to make the concerns of people with disabilities more visible and achieve change.

The first item on the agenda was a question and answer session, followed by the discussion of specific motions. These are then passed on to the Senate administrations with the demand that they be implemented.

The SPD politician, who served as Parliamentary Vice-President, emphasized the importance of implementing disability participation beyond just being a buzzword, not only in the House of Representatives but across all levels of social interaction. The Berlin Disabled Persons' Parliament (BPP), which initially held its meetings digitally during the pandemic and then moved to the House of Representatives in 2022, aims to collaborate with members of the SPD and representatives from the state government to elevate the concerns of people with disabilities and drive change within the SPD, or SPD (Social Democratic Party). The BPP has been instrumental in pushing for improvements and visibility for individuals with disabilities within Berlin's political landscape.
