Government and Political Affairs - Parliament discusses extremism and civil protection measures.

The Rhineland-Palatinate state legislature will convene on Wednesday (at 2:00 pm) to discuss measures against extremism and road construction contributions in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In addition to these topics, other matters on the agenda for the two-day assembly in Mainz include the creation of a state office for fire and disaster protection and legal measures for dismantling.

The recent constitution protection report has revealed that the threat from extremists has reached a new level in Rhineland-Palatinate. This is primarily due to an increasing danger from far-right extremism and Islamism, as well as growing influence from foreign intelligence services. In the discussion on road construction contributions, the opposition will once again be attempting to persuade the traffic light government to eliminate them.

Following the flood disaster on the Ahr, a new population protection center is planned, which is expected to start functioning gradually at the end of the summer. This center will serve as the focal point of the newly formed state office for fire and disaster protection. A state law will be used to establish the organizational basis for this office.

As a result of the federal government's decision at the beginning of the year, which introduced the so-called Return Improvement Act, district courts are now responsible for carrying out searches related to deportations as of August. The states have the option of transferring this responsibility to the administrative courts. Rhineland-Palatinate intends to incorporate this change in state law.
