Parliament discusses anti-Semitism after Hamas attack

On Wednesday (1.30 pm), the Hamburg Parliament will discuss the anti-Semitic protests in the wake of the Gaza war. The AfD as well as the SPD and the Greens have registered the topic for the current hour.

While the AfD blames the migration policy of the SPD, Greens and CDU for riots by migrants and hatred against Jews, Israel and Germany, the red-green government factions want to focus on solidarity with the people of Israel under the heading "No place for anti-Semitism and Hamas support".

To this end, a joint motion by the SPD, Green and CDU parliamentary groups and the FDP MPs has also been submitted to the MPs, with which the parliament is to declare its solidarity with Israel and condemn the terrorist attacks by Hamas. It also calls for the closure of the Islamic Center Hamburg, which according to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution is controlled by Iran. The AfD has submitted its own motion on this issue, which will also be put to the vote.

Other topics at the meeting include the entry of the major Swiss shipping company MSC into the city's port logistics company HHLA, which the left-wing parliamentary group is opposing under the title "Our port is not your casino!". In addition, a motion tabled by the CDU proposes a reduction in VAT on building materials and construction services to boost the ailing construction industry.

During the discussion, the red-green government factions advocate for strengthening solidarity with Israel, rejecting anti-Semitism and Hamas support. The ongoing conflict in Gaza has raised concerns about potential citizen involvement in anti-Semitic protests, leading to calls for action against organizations perceived as supportive of terrorist groups.
