The state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt approved the 2024 state budget on Thursday. Expenditure of more than 14 billion euros is planned. Personnel expenditure is the largest block at around 4.5 billion euros. During the debate in parliament, the opposition criticized a controversial instrument known as global underspending. More expenditure than revenue is budgeted. In recent years, it has become apparent that not all positions could be filled and not all investment funds could be spent.
