Boris Palmer, the mayor of Tübingen, may join the Green party once again if they find common ground on the issue of immigration. During a conversation on the ARD show "Maischberger," he expressed openness to the idea after discussing the matter with the Greens. Palmer stated, "If there's an agreement, I'd be thrilled, as I consider myself a Green at heart."

During the weekend, Palmer hinted at the possibility of rejoining the Greens. He had previously left the party over a controversy in which he used the N-word at a migration conference in Frankfurt. His membership in the party had been in jeopardy due to other contentious statements he made. Subsequently, he made adjustments to the commenting rules on his Facebook profile.

During the municipal election this year, Palmer contested the race as a representative of the Free Voters Association and was also elected a member of the district council in addition to his role as mayor. On his Facebook page, Palmer shared his gratitude for the people of Tübingen, stating, "I ran for the first time as a non-partisan candidate on the list's 11th position. Given the uncertainty of the outcome, it was not predictable. Now I can thank the people of Tübingen for placing their trust in me once more. With more than 33,000 votes, this is a result that I hadn't anticipated."
