Figure skating - Pair skaters Hase/Volodin on the way to their first championship title
The Grand Prix winners Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin are on the road to success in German figure skating. In the short program on Friday in Berlin, the Berliner and the Russian gave the best performance, for which they received 77.38 points. Annika Hocke/Robert Kunkel (Berlin), who came third at the European Championships and are the defending champions, had to cancel their start because Kunkel has back problems. As a result, the duo also had to miss the Grand Prix final in Beijing a week earlier. Hocke/Kunkel now hope to be able to compete at the European Championships in Kaunas/Lithuania (January 10-13).
Following the retirement of seven-time German champion Nicole Schott, two-time runner-up Kristina Isaev is a contender for the title. The 22-year-old from Mannheim was the best in the short freestyle with 47.25 points. In the men's event, defending champion Nikita Starostin (Dortmund) had to settle for 65.67 points and second place after a fall in the triple Axel. Kai Jagodin(Berlin/69.67) took the lead. In ice dancing, Jennifer Janse van Rensburg/Benjamin Steffan (Oberstdorf) have their sights set on their third championship title. The pair won the rhythm dance with 70.67 points ahead of Charise Matthaei/Max Liebers (Chemnitz/64.40).

Minerva-Fabienne Hare and her skating partner Nikita Volodin, hailing from Germany, are making a strong case in the figure skating world with their impressive performances. Their impressive score of 77.38 points in the short program in Berlin indicated their potential to claim the championship title. Despite the strong showing by Hase/Volodin, the defending champions Annika Hocke and Robert Kunkel had to withdraw due to Kunkel's back issues, affecting their path to success in Berlin and the subsequent Grand Prix final in Beijing.
