Gatherings or Celebrations - Özdemir considers Palmer's potential comeback to The Greens.

Özdemir expressed his feelings, saying, "I'd be thrilled if he said he wants help and would focus on his job rather than posting fights on Facebook. He's a great mayor, and that's what he should do. I'd be delighted if he stuck to that."

In response, Palmer said, "I hold Özdemir in high regard and appreciate his positive words." Palmer has been Tübingen's mayor since 2007 and has had his share of disagreements with political statements.

About a year ago, Palmer left the Greens due to a controversy over using the N-word at a Frankfurt migration conference. His standing in the party was already shaky due to other contentious remarks. Then he revised the commenting rules on his Facebook profile.

Özdemir lauded Palmer's impeccable record as a mayor during his Saturday speech. "I went to great lengths to keep him in the party. Unfortunately, he's now dismantled those bridges I built for him." Özdemir is seen as the most promising choice for the top candidate for the 2026 state election in the southwest among the Greens, as Winfried Kretschmann, the incumbent state president of the Greens, will not seek re-election.
