In Berlin, a total of 21 establishments have put forward applications for growing marijuana. This information was shared by Senate representative Christine Richter, following queries from the dpa news agency. As of recently, it's been acknowledged that the Landesamt für Gesundheit und Soziales (Lageso) is the body responsible for reviewing and approving these applications. However, Richter points out that a necessary legislative framework still needs to be established before this process can commence, a matter expected to be discussed at the Senate's next meeting on September 3.

Since April 1, adult citizens aged 18 and above have been authorized to posses specific quantities of marijuana, cultivate it in private, and consume it publicly, under certain stipulations. Public possession is limited to 25 grams and private storage to 50 grams, while up to three plants can be grown within the living space. Since July 1, marijuana clubs have been entitled to submit their applications for approval. However, in Berlin, they don't seem to have received any feedback, which can be attributed to the fact that until recently, the responsible entity within the city was yet to be determined.

For several months, there was debate regarding whether the districts or the state level should handle these applications, with no clear solution emerging until last week. Consequently, while marijuana clubs submitted their applications mostly to the districts, these applications were not processed during the interim period.

It's anticipated that the districts will now forward these applications to the Lageso. The exact timeline for when the first cultivation permits will be issued remains uncertain. It will be the districts' responsibility to ensure compliance with the regulations surrounding marijuana cultivation.

In light of the new rules, many German residents are interested in growing marijuana, especially in Berlin. Despite the authorization given to marijuana clubs in July, no feedback has been provided to these establishments in Berlin yet.
