Almost eleven thousand individuals gathered in Leipzig and Dresden on Saturday, protesting right-wing extremism and advocating for democracy. Irena Rudolph-Kokot, a co-organizer of the "Hand in Hand for Democracy and Human Rights" rally, stated, "Just a day before the European and municipal elections, we aim to inspire the public to cast their votes and deliver a strong message for democracy and human rights." Rhe organizers claimed that around 15,000 individuals took part in Leipzig, while the officials reported 12,500 participants.

In an unexpected turn of events, the critically acclaimed actress Sandra Hüller made an appearance at the Leipzig rally and delivered a speech. Hüller, age 46, told the crowd, "Resist the rough language and violent tactics of the far-right, which aim to instill fear and division."

Famous for her exceptional acting skills in the film "Anatomy of a Murder" this year, Sandra Hüller is rarely seen outside of her work. Born in Suhl and currently residing in Leipzig, she emphasized the importance of voting. Following the speeches, demonstrators marched through the heart of the city.

Another rally took place in Dresden on Saturday afternoon, organized by the "We are the Berlin Wall" Dresden action alliance. With the slogan "Stop right-wing extremism - defend democracy," thousands of people gathered on the Theaterplatz, both at the rally and the subsequent demonstration throughout the Old and New Town.
