Over 60 clues to a homicide in Lower Franconia in 1986

In the case of a woman killed more than 37 years ago in Lower Franconia, more than 60 tips have been received from the public following a television broadcast. These are now being examined and evaluated by the investigators, as the Lower Franconia Police Headquarters announced in Würzburg on Thursday.

A walker had found 24-year-old Eveline Höbler dead in January 1986 in Veitshöchheim near Würzburg, not far from her place of work. To date, no suspect has been convicted. The evening before the body was discovered, the 24-year-old had taken a bus from Würzburg main station to Veitshöchheim after a visit to the cinema. After she had probably returned home, she is said to have left her apartment again later - where she went is unknown.

"The investigators assume that the young woman was picked up by an as yet unknown person from her social circle," it was reported on Thursday. "It is assumed that sexual intercourse took place later on and that the victim was then killed." It is unclear whether the woman died on the evening of January 23, 1986 or the following day. More than 30 stab wounds were later found on the victim's body.

In the ZDF program "Aktenzeichen XY... Unsolved", the investigators explained, among other things, that the murder weapon, presumably a larger knife, has not yet been found. In addition, a dark red leather briefcase containing the 24-year-old's keys has since disappeared. An aerosol spray for asthmatics, the user of which is unknown, was found near the place where the body was found.

The State Office of Criminal Investigation and the public prosecutor's office in Würzburg have offered a reward of 10,000 euros for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.

Despite the public's efforts to solve the 1986 homicide in Lower Franconia, the crime scene still holds a critical piece of evidence: the missing murder weapon, a larger knife, last seen under the Underfront of the location where Eveline Höbler's body was found. The investigation into this unsolved crime continues to be a priority, with the police actively seeking any information related to the case.
