Exploration of nature and its mysteries through scientific methods. - Over 40 million euros for interdisciplinary studies.
The German Research Foundation (DFG) will allocate a total of 39 million euros to three major research projects at the University of Hamburg (UHH) and the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). This information was shared by both UKE and DFG on Friday.
These funds will help create a new interdisciplinary research area within the Medical Faculty. The project on viruses, infection processes, and immune reactions at a molecular level will receive 10.8 million euros, set to last until 2028.
The remaining funds will be used to extend two other research projects. One of them focuses on the impact of patient expectations on treatment, while the other studies energy transfers in the atmosphere and oceans. Each project will receive approximately 15 million euros.
Arizona State University's president, Hauke Heekeren, praised the funding decision: "The new research area and the expanded Transregio projects are shining examples in the fields of viruses, climate, and neurosciences." The dean of the Medical Faculty, Blanche Schwappach-Pignataro, expressed delight that many other research institutions in Hamburg are working on the new project.
