Over 40 individuals either perished or went missing due to air raids in Gaza's central region.
The Media Office's Director, Ismail Al-Thawabtah, informed CNN that bombings happened in Al Shati camp and the neighboring Al Tuffah district.
The Civil Defense Directorate shared that 19 bodies were discovered following the Al Tuffah strike, where over 35 individuals sustained injuries. They added that several people were still trapped under debris after Israeli aircraft bombarded a house near Batsh cemetery in Tuffah, east of Gaza City.
The other strike targeted a residential building in Al Shati, also near Gaza City.
In a brief statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that their fighter jets struck Hamas military targets in the Gaza City region. The IDF didn't provide specific locations for the bombings. CNN is requesting more information.
This event follows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announcing at least 22 casualties from a strike that struck civilians in southern Gaza on Friday. The attack hit the refugee camps of the Palestinian town of Mawasi, an area recognized as a humanitarian zone by the Israeli military.
The IDF is examining the incident, but their initial assessments found no evidence pointing to their military causing the destruction.
Israel has been escalating its activities in Rafah, where they initiated an operation last month as part of their plan to dismantle Hamas in Gaza. A Gazan official stated Israel's military is advancing further into Rafah and is drawing close to the coast.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that since October 7, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has reached 37,551, with 85,911 injuries.
Israel started its operation in Gaza after the Hamas attacks of October 7, which claimed around 1,200 lives.
